Okay, I’m ignorant here, but I’ve seen pictures of the swimsuits of the early 1900’s and they were pretty modest. What happened to make folks buy bikinis?

I don’t know that my source was correct, but I read that bikinis (‘invented’ in the late 40s but getting smaller over the years) were never that popular until the song ‘Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’ came out. Remember, correlation does not prove causation (but it might indicate something).

People decided they needed to imitate what they saw on a screen, a movie screen at first and then TV and now online… The media suckered us into believing we knew best what to do for ourselves. I have always been a strong do-it-yourself-er, but I also know that over and above my PhD I need to learn from others. Nowadays that has disintegrated to where people want to make medical decisions ignoring what is said by people who know about it, and even want to ignore all the advice from knowledgeable people to get their submersibles safety checked.

These days, she could wear a rash guard and board shorts to the pool if she wanted.

She does have a point here. The differences between men’s and women’s swimsuits is interesting when I think about it, though I rarely had before. Guess society has ingrained these looks into our expectations, and we just go with the flow regarding what we’re used to seeing on suits.

Wow—that was a lot more thoughtful than I’d planned to be here tonight. Sooo … AACK! (◔_◔) [face-palm] [head-desk] Ha.

    HI, MOM. Hello, “Cathy” Clan.
