And one wonders WHY the fascination with sports has led to the dumbing down of the American “educational” system.Sports and the ‘woke’ classroom’ environment, have proven themselves totally at odds with obtaining a usable education for all, except those very few, who have the intelligence and self-discipline to avoid falling into the sphere of the idiocy of sports, that has taken over the idea of ‘learning’ on the campuses of American colleges and universities.

Why 12 I could see 8 teams playoffs 1 week longer or 16 teams 2 weeks longer 12 forces a 3 team scenario with someone getting a bye. and same length of playoffs as 16.

Some people do it for the spirit of the game, some people do it for recognition and some do it for cold hard cash.

12 teams is to push more money to 1 or 2 conferences plus give writers something to complain about, ignoring they were the ones pushing it from the start.

There’s 42 NCAA Bowl games so that’s about 80 teams getting invited to one. There’s 125 Div 1 teams so almost everyone gets one. But yeah, maybe 25 schools that take it real serious.

it would appear that colleges, coaches and the NCAA want more playoff games in order to reap more money, while it’s the players who provide this opportunity using their bodies (and potential injuries). that’s why the athlete is noting “more opting out” – that is opting out of playing in the playoffs. I would do the same thing if I could get drafted and earn big bucks – injuries would be a bummer if it derailed potential big bucks to me.

Twelve teams are four too many. Eight is just right: Five Power 5 conference champions, one Group of Five conference champion and two at-larges from different conferences or independents.

Seven existing bowl games on a rotating basis over three weekends should do it. For example…

QUARTERFINALS – Peach, Citrus, Cotton and Fiesta BowlsSEMIFINALS – Sugar and Orange BowlsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Rose Bowl
