Yes they did have electric cars back in 1967 when this comic was drawn, they were called golf carts.

I recall a joke about electric cars when I was in school in the sixties that went something like “It’s not the car that’s expensive, it’s the 500 mile long extention cord.”

Now if the lightning strikes just when I hit 88 mph, everything will be fine.

My late Uncle used to be in charge of the upkeep of a fleet of electric delivery vans for a dairy back in the day. I thought as a kid, that would be a really cool and unusual job…..

There are some electric motorcycles now that can do 125 mph with a 200 mile range.

The fight over electric versus gasoline-powered vehicles is not that what you think. The traditional states for producing cars are where gasoline powered vehicles are generally produced. Most EVs are manufactured in the sun belt. So the fight isn’t over American jobs — it’s where those jobs are.

This is actually odd because gasoline-powered cars are generally produced in the Blue states, while EVs are made in Red states. I live in Georgia, a Red state which is becoming a major hub of EV production, for example. So the GOP is arguing against its supporters’ best interests.

The same goes for the actual fuel. States that drill for oil of course want you to drive a gasoline vehicle. The electricity needed to buy EV’s is generated around the country. So again, this isn’t about jobs versus no jobs. It’s about the location of those jobs.

We need an all electric NASCAR race. Pit stop would take 2-3 hours to charge the batteries.
