Maybe he has seen the show before. The second time I saw “The Groove Tube” I was the only one in the audience who started laughing as soon as the Safety Sam skit started. It wasn’t until the camera zoomed in that everyone else started laughing.
Perhaps Brutus is laughing at the action and the soundtrack is out of sync with the show. Happened to us the other night. That 1 or 2 seconds offset is maddening. After the commercial break, all was back as it should be.
This reminds me of a comic I saw years ago where a husband and wife are watching a TV Show together. First, the husband is laughing and the wife is crying at the same scene. Then, the wife is laughing and the husband is crying at the same scene… ☺
Never quite got the concept of a laugh track on television shows. Still don’t. If something is funny, a person will laugh. Don’t need someone to tell me what’s funny or not and when to laugh or not. If he’s off track, he’s his own man. God Bless him……
Don’t let it bother you, Gladys. As some have suggested, Brutus may have seen this program and knows what’s coming. Or perhaps the writers are intentionally telegraphing the joke, to give the audience a leg up; it can be fun to be a step ahead of the characters in a show. (When my wife and I are watching TV, I’ll sometimes comment, with a small touch of snark, “Didn’t see that one coming.”) I think I Love Lucy indulged in that a lot, because after a while, we could count on Lucy to do something crazy and Ricky to get upset. The humor lay in what she did and just how upset he got.
Don’t know about the laugh tracks, but I have occasionally seen some old programs where the audio and the movements of the characters’ mouths are out of sync, I’m not sure what the cause of that is.

Brutus has already seen that sit-com so he laughs in advance.

With Brutus, someone else always has the last laugh.

Some Networks seem to have that out of sync problem a little more than they should., so it’s probably not Brutus’s fault this time.

Not everyone has a good sense of timing. Visit an open mic sometime; you’ll see all sorts of anomalies.

Though a born loser, Brutus has a positive attitude that even gets a laugh ahead of the laugh track.

Sometimes it takes a while for the joke to sync in, especially in Brutus’s case.

especially when he’s watching ‘the twilight zone’
