Cute. The last panel is a bit off point, though.

Mr. Rall is disappointed that Putin hasn’t been able to finish the job yet.

Cute, but ultimately meaningless, as Rall forgot to mention the fact that rebellious citizens can buy all those weapons and parade about with them at will.

Love it, Mr. Rall. Reminds me somewhat of one of my favorite comic arcs of all times, Doonesbury’s “Nixon Goes to Watts”.

Biden should experience coming back to the U.S. through the Southern border.

So, Ted. After Putin crushes Ukraine he will be satisfied with the Putinpire he will have built and will be no threat to anyone else? Moldova and the Baltic states, for example, have nothing to fear? He will then feel safe that the long term plans of NATO to occupy Moscow will be set aside? Isn’t it strange that so many states in Europe bordering on or close to Russia cannot see the wisdom of your thinking?

But if you’re really interested in solving problems in the US, how about taking on the do nothing attitude and tax cuts to billionaires which characterize the Republican party instead of pretending that aid to Ukraine is taking away money that would otherwise be spent here?

Perfection costs more. The U.S. does not claim perfection, nor does the U.S. ask for perfection from those we aid. The U.S. does claim that our form of self government is the best for WE, the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union… It is meant to be an ongoing endeavor.

Biden is not wonderful or godlike. He’s just several quantum levels above his predecessor. He’s not the president I’d like to have but he’s the best available option at the moment. I know, too much like real life.

Ted seems to have deleted a comment that’s alternative history, pretending there has been no aggression from Russia towards their neighbors. I managed to rescue my response. As flawed as the US is, there’s a lively debate about our role in the world & our history of expanding into indigenous lands. You won’t see these kinds of debates happening in Russia or China. Discussion of the rights of internal minority groups & external people under oppressive regimes is met with derision.

“Bush and Clinton should have taken pains to help the former USSR come in for a soft landing, transition from state economies and tried to form alliances and friendships with them.”

They did. Unfortunately a lot of “former” Communist Party honchos used their power & connections to sell the most valuable bits of the economy to themselves at fire sale prices.

“NATO sent the clear message to Russia in the 1990s when they kept missiles pointed east: we’re not friends, we never will be, we don’t like you or trust you, and one day we might even try to invade.”

What are you talking about? START was signed in 1991, drastically reducing the number of nuclear warheads in the US & Russia. Bombers were unilaterally taken off alert & missiles were reprogrammed for default targets over open ocean. The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists moved the Atomic Clock to 17 minutes before midnight, the farthest it’s been from Doomsday since the Cold War began.

What happened in the intervening years? Putin saw an opportunity to tell Russians they would not become “just another country” like France or Germany. He praised Stalin & the Tsars, promising a return to greatness. Former Eastern Bloc states began seeking NATO membership after watching Russia try to reassert control in the Balkans & the Caucasus.

We’d be better able to help those in need around the world if we put some money into our own people and infrastructure. Once again we’d be a good example for the rest of the world.

Well Republicans have made sure that a lot of Federal spending is controlled by the local state legislaters. Then local state Republicans will send the money back to prevent their constituents from seeing the government as a good thing.
