We were hoping (at least I hope I am not the only reader who was hoping) for a sweet boy-and-dog strip. (example: the more family-friendly Red and Rover)
But instead in the first volume of the collection we get the I-hate-my-child tone of Calvin and Hobbes (and so many other so-called “family” strips) and the start of exposure to (and normalization of) bad family patterns with the introduction of Rochelle. Subject matter that was already adult for what I though was a boy-and-dog strip.
But now we have this installment that shows the strip has become not only even more adult and treating toxic family relations as even less of a big deal, but has gained the bias of Doonesbury. Sorry to say it, but this is what the strip has become lately.
I sincerely hope those behind the strip will by chance read this and be willing to take it to heart and at least consider adopting the Red and Rover attitude for AJ and Magnus: A sweet strip, with an actually loving family, without the child-bashing (at least of the earliest strips), without the dysfunction, without the adult stuff, without the bias. I really think this will improve the strip. Think about it.
The portrayal of faeries is a disgrace. The Welsh fairies look human but are very small, The British Fairies are insectile and alien. The hybrids of the Welsh with the wings of an insect is the current look of them. The drawing of Tinkerbell today was funny & well done.
You know when Iwas growing up stuff like this I’ve never heard of!!! It’s like something you kept hid way back in the closet and didn’t dare talk about!! Oh well everyone is entitled to live their life the way they want, hey!!! As long as they’re not hurting me I don’t care!!!
This is a comedic exaggeration, but it is true that a lot of straight people sexualize their children and expose them to sexual things and think it is ok as long as it is “straight” behavior. I have been made very uncomfortable by it on many occasions. Especially in the ways some people dress their young girls.
Not going to reply to the big comment, but I will say: The comic artist has every right to post what they want on their comic. Anyone who has a problem with it, should find a new comic.
