This was actually the plot of the pilot for The Cosby Show back in the 80s. Bill’s son Theo told his father he didn’t want to go to college. Bill basically ordered him to go to college whether he wanted to or not. But of course his character was a doctor and money wasn’t an object (besides being a TV show).
These days college isn’t seen as being as crucial as it used to be, and there’s a big push for kids to go into trades because there’s a shortage of skilled trades workers and a young person can make good money and not worry about student loan debt.
My 19 year old is graduating high school with an associates degree. I have suggested that she get a job before getting a bachelor’s degree, because she does not enjoy school or put in consistent effort at it (as shown by her 2.3 GPA). She needs some life skills before getting any further education. We will have her pay rent to us, which will be put in a savings account for her first apartment.
Not every career needs college. With Baldo’s interest in cars, trade school and becoming a mechanic might work. After all, that job will not get outsourced overseas.

Prepare to pay room and board. At least, go to a trade school and learn something useful.

Packing plants are always looking for new employees. They chew up workers in a short time and spit the out.
