The spiritual religious version of the Trickle Down Theory. Of course, tough nipples if the fish rots.

Give a cat a fish and he’s eat all day. Teach a cat to fish and he’ll pout because you did not give him a fish.

Teach a man to fish and spend all day on the lake avoiding his chores.

My version is “Teach a man to fish and there’s a man that owes you some fish.” :)

A Liberal would feed the person and then offer the enlightenment of education. A conservative would teach the person to fish only so as to not have to share any of his own.
