Wouldn’t getting coffee from a drive-up window be planning ahead?

I worked half my career with caffeine addicts. Mostly young, mostly male (software engineering). There were still differences between company culture about how folks fed their habit. Every place offered free soda, free coffee and free tea to the programmers. But some places the programmers were happy to take what the company offered, and other places, they’d troop off together to hit the Starbux or equivalent. Three or more times per day. One of my coworkers was spending in excess of $20/day on fancy coffee. Times 5 times 4.2 = $420.00 per month. He was probably pulling in about $12K/month before taxes, so this wasn’t sinking his budget, but imagine he’d put $300/month of that into paying off his student debt?

PS: Having started my adult life working construction, I was in the habit of bringing a lunch. NONE of my coworkers EVER brought their lunch. Not as bad as buying designer coffee, but still probably about $150 / month more than I was spending for lunch. People are strange.

I make my own coffee and have at least 2 cups before I leave for work

If I need coffee to function, I shouldn’t be driving to get it

Agree with Cactus-Pete comment. Mrs. Olsen probably has been getting that cuppa every day for years – 180 days [school year] and maybe even during breaks. Like most things we teachers devise, it first become a plan that works and thence a habit. Leaves us time to plan what we are going to teach about planning ahead.

Not true. She had to plan the time in her morning to be able to make the stop for coffee, so she is still doing prior planning.

I always made my own coffee or drank the office coffee. No $5 cup of coffee every day for me!

I am aging myself but coffee at the local greasy spoon was twenty five cents and sometimes free depending on the owner’s mood. The coffee pool at the office charged ten cents a cup ending up with an excess at the end of the week that bought doughnuts for the crowd. At the office, the last man to empty the carafe was responsible to start brewing another pot. Sometimes that meant the last half cup lay in the carafe just getting colder and older.I laid off one day when I realized I had drunk nine cups before noon because my hands were trembling. Now days I drink a watered down version black that I calculate costs eight cents a cup not counting electricity and wear ad tear in the drip grind coffee maker that I paid $15 for several years ago. Also that is alternated with tea one day, hot lemon water another (sort of a virgin toddy), or just hot water. Ice water seems to upset the old tum.

Trying to make someone uncomfortable to make them aware of the complacency or a sedentary lifestyle is an act of love. It could be perceived as malicious manipulation but he’d have to have a position of authority or relationship with her to do that.

Two things I’ll never understand why people spend an excess amount of money on: jeans and sunglasses. You will never convince me more expensive equals higher quality. I’ve tried them both. Noooo Waaay.
