It’s funny how our automobiles start to feel like members of the family, with anthropomorphic characteristics: recalcitrant, wasteful, noisy…my sister and brother in law named their VW Beetle “Buster.” This was years (decades) ago. They’ve since moved onto quieter cars with measurably less personality. And I have seen a vintage postcard with a middle-aged couple standing on either side of a faded pickup truck, and a dog lying on the hood between them. The caption says, “Colorado Family of Four.”
For our PHEV Volvo we got the cold weather/Canadian package which includes a block heater as well as heated seats and steering well and external mirrors. Yes, heated external mirrors. They do wonders. Always thought those were luxuries when we lived in San Francisco, but now they are in daily use from the first frost of autumn until the beginning of spring. Good luck
I had better explain, sorry! So, he parks it for the winter and drives our Tahoe (4WD). The Volvo is a rear-wheel drive. So in spring, sometimes it hesitates to start after sitting so long.

It gets cold enough to be miserable here, but not cold enough for batteries to die.

“I’ll wait until that’s done, then I’ll check the tire pressure. Just before we leave, I’ll check the gas gauge. Have you seen my keys?”
