So he spends hours (of his own time, or more likely of his employer’s) doing a task a travel agent could have done (better) in a few minutes. And we wonder why most of our economy now belongs to the Chinese…

I would never do that. My employers has eyes. When an employee has to travel the secretary arranges this for business.

kab2rb, where do you work that secretaries do these arrangements for you? My boss wouldn’t dream of asking me to plan his vacation.

We keep things simple. We use our vacation to visit out of state relatives. So no hotel to book. Just the rental car. And food comes cheap when my Aunt Lucille does the cooking. We’re still trying to get her to come visit Florida, but I think she likes her own little cottage too much. Go fig.

And if communism ever falls in China, puddle, then what?
