What’s to even see in NYC according to Andy Capp?

I took a bite out of the big apple and saw half of a worm.

If you’ve seen one Big Apple, you’ve seen them all.

There’s never been a bar that Capp didn’t like!!

And now Flo is the ‘apple of Andy’s eye’.

The Big Apple is said to have been the name of a club in New York which was popular enough for the name to be applied to the city.

As I mentioned on Saturday on Red and Rover – as Yorkshire Terriers were mentioned in the strip – I learned as a nine-year-old in 1976 (the USA’s bicentenary year) that New York had been called New Amsterdam by the original Dutch colonists but was renamed New York by the English as the English soldiers who captured it were led by the Duke of York.

New York’s a pit. Better off staying in Hartlepool.

An awful drinking club by the docks is probably better than the NYC Big Apple. Safer, too.

So Flo is saying The Big Apple is Rotten to the Core? Doublespeak? Could be.
