    I never understand why mothers (not mine, thankfully) often have this big dream of seeing their daughter married. Hasn’t their own marriage taught them enough about the reality of what it’s like?

    Wow, tegm, that’s very cynical. While marriage has its difficult times and requires work, like having children, the benefits outweigh the pitfalls and is worth the effort for many people. If you find the right partner, it can be wonderful. For me, anything worth having usually requires work.

    It’s okay to not get married. Getting married is great but I see no need to enforce it on uninterested people. Or trying to rush people like Cathy’s mom does
