I have long maintained that the National Felons League IS a Racketeering Influenced Criminal Organization, and EVERYONE involved, from the owners, down to the bog wallahs, MUST be prosecuted under the RICO statutes. The drug dealing, drug use, assaults, and all the other criminal acts that are tolerated as acts of “boys being boys”, would come to a screeching halt, and the prisons would be overflowing, IF justice were to be truly served. Of course, the brain dead, NO-life, losers would each have a fecal hemmorage, IF their “heroes and role models” were made to answer for their crimes.

Don’t gamble unless you can afford to lose.

If you need to “make it interesting” with gambling then you clearly don’t like the sport. I am OK with the existence of betting sites but the leagues shouldn’t be promoting them. And the leagues shouldn’t allow their ads during game broadcasts.

Are the refs, coaches, employees or service providers of the teams allowed to bet on the games?

The NFL has a team in Vegas, and the USFL has a team called the Gamblers. Oh, but they don’t want the players betting on games wink, wink.

Several NFL players were suspended, most notably Paul Hornung and Alex Karras were suspended from football indefinitely in April 1963 by commissioner Pete Rozelle for betting on NFL games and associating with undesirable persons. Forthright in admitting to his mistake, Hornung’s image went relatively untarnished, and in 1964 his suspension, and Karras’s, were re-evaluated by the league and both were reinstated in March.

The only problem pro and college sports had with gambling was they were not getting a cut. Now that they can make deals, everything is ok with them.

A coworker used to say that if you didn’t allow gambling, you couldn’t get the owners to watch a horse race.

There are zero ethical standards in professional sports, so don’t look for any. Among the players, sure, but not from the people who run things. From the PGA Tour getting in bed with murderers to FIFA bribes to land the World Cup in Qatar, nothing means anything except money.
