In my home it was the exact opposite. My cat wanted to be with the dogs so badly! When my Sam got older she would go lay next to him. He would eventually wake up and realize how close she was and he would get up to move a few feet away. She would wait until he was asleep again and they would repeat the process. If I was watching a long movie they could circuit the entire room in this way.
Never had a dog before in my life. Long story. But I have now. Still a puppy. Bottle-raised a kitten last year – all I had to do was put a tray of litter (hen feed!) in her incubator, and she was trained. Puppy can’t hit a puppy pad. At least he’s mostly aiming for it now. He also prefers brush handles to chew toys. The kitten was ecstatic when he showed up – figured I got him for her. There are 9 cats here, and a confused puppy – nobody wants to be licked, and they keep bonking him. Some of the cats agree with Ginger – but the 3 youngest (Nyla is one year old today!!) are okay with him, and as long as they keep him occupied, they aren’t too put out.

Cats rule and completely regard the house or apartmet as their own and no one should even try to dispute that.

I did love our St Bernard when we had her, and she was such a gentle giant she got along well with the cats
My experiences lately with dogs have been less positive
Dogs bark at me on my early morning walks and if a visitor brings a dog it disturbs our cats
We recently adopted 3 senior cats, 5 of our 6 cats are now seniors
New house rule, no dogs allowed

Oh Ginger, think of the havoc you could wreak and blame on the dog.

We have cats and dogs. The dogs know their place and as long as they do they get along well with the cats.
