Which “big one?” War? Earthquake? Game?

I thought ‘The Big One’ was World War One or Two. Not Vietnam…

He may be referring to Woodstock!!!

It’s fascinating to see how people bend over backwards to criticize an international intervention against a genocide.

If you remember the 60’s, you really weren’t there….

Could be a reference to reagan imagining that he’d actually serve in WW2, instead of just acting about it:>

I think it’s a reference to Zonker being (gasp!)…old.

Ha. Now that I think of it, if we had a war and they reinstated the “Draft”, I wonder how “woke” would react. Whatever, “woke” is.

Ronald Reagan had a tendency to believe his experience making war movies was his actual experience in the war.

Maybe the students are protesting for better beer at the local bar?… ;)

“Too many movies” is the essence of how we forget the horrors and get whipped up into the “fighting spirit” for the next one.

WW1. 4 years

WW2. 6 years

Korea. 3 years

Vietnam. 20 years

Afghanistan 20 years

At least Zonker has an excuse. Lightly fried brain cells.

The Vietnam war, of course. That was the defining event of the original Doonesbury generation (Mike, BD, Zonker, Rev. Sloan …) at Walden. Many of them could be assumed to protest, but BD served in Vietnam, where he met Phred, his Viet Cong opponent, who became his friend.

I actually think bringing back the draft might be a good thing. Politicians would actually have to tell people why they’re going to take our children away to die.

I also think that it will stop our military from being used as mercenaries for the rich and their corporations. That’s all our military is now. Mercenaries.

Different war of course, different issues not really. Spread of communism vs Spread of Putin/Russia. We actually lost Vietnam, did the ‘domino’ effect occur?
