Believe in a spirit realm as something that can easily be accessed by professionals doing cold, warm, and hot readings for a fee? That’s a hard no. That’s like believing some handsome young soldier in Afghanistan who happens to have fallen in love with an octogenarian needs 6k to pay his hospital bills before he can be shipped home.
There’s comfort in the thought that death is not the end, which calls to mind one of my favorite quotations: “Death is only the end if you think the story is about you.”
Hmm, seems to me that it’s a question of fact or perhaps faith rather than a question of comfort! They can look either for physical existence of ghost phenomena or for existence of a separate realm in which ghosts and spirits exist.
Same with heaven— I don’t think it has anything to do with what we want to believe. Either it exists with physical evidence, or it can be perceived only by those at an advanced level of spirituality.

Of course. A lot of people find comfort in believing in ghosts. They just call it religion.

I’m still waiting for a single one of the ghost hunting shows to show an actual ghost (my wife watches them so I’m a hostage).
