    judging from the price, this must be set in japan. my wife keeps repeating in bemusement and disbelief, “watermelons were less than 100 yen when i was a kid.” they now cost 1,000 yen or more at the supermarket and there are even “brand name” watermelons that will set you back even more…

    they grow those brand name babies locally and we always receive at least one or two each summer, ones that had some small defect that rendered them unfit to sell. watermelons with blemishes taste exactly the same as blemish-free ones… ☺
