To little too late maybe. A smack on the bottom in the early years might have avoided the punch in the arm today? Iâm very torn about this sort of thing.
Psychologists do say that any form of punishment can scar a child for life. Itâs much more important to teach them that there are no consequences for their actions so they learn that they can continue to get away with anything they do.
Anyone remember Benjamin Spock? His first child-rearing book said âDonât you dare hit your child!!â and his second one (done when his own kids were teenagers) said, âForget what I said before, smack their rebellious behinds!âSo yes, when I have kids of my own, they WILL get physically disciplined when necessaryIf my parents and teachers had NOT done that to me, I would not have been shocked into realising I was doing wrong and thusly taken steps to correct myself.
Thereâs a big difference between spanking a child as discipline and child abuse. When I was a kid I much preferred a spanking to being grounded or having the tv taken away from me for a week. A spanking is done and over but grounding and other punishments are longer lasting. I was never spanked so bad I couldnât sit down for a week (thatâs just an expression).
I get tired of people saying you shouldnât spank your kids, just use timeouts. Timeouts never worked with my kids. I swatted their butts when it was needed, which wasnât too often.
you people with your non-violence in correcting your children, have to only look at the crime rate in the U.S. of A. to figure out that you are just full of it. Spare the rod and spoil the child is a good example of what is wrong with the United States. My wife and I both spanked all of our children when they needed it and they all turned out as well adjusted and productive individuals.
Train them early like puppies, a newspaper across the fannie to get their attention and then hold their nose to the source so theyâll know why. Oh. And mandatory death penalty for all parking violations. Ok. Kidding on that last one. Sort of.

I was a teacher for more than 10 years. I generally cannot agree with the physical chastisement of young people. However, in Jeri Keeneâs caseâŠ!

There is a difference between swatting on the butt and beating with a belt or something else. A good swatting never hurt anyone.

I would quote Grandpa from the strip Boondocks: âI hate to see a child go unbeaten!â
