Why would you hang on to an amendment that kills more people than any other? And it’s not as if you’re keeping to the letter of the law on it. Who is actually in a well regulated militia?
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” Hamas is “A well regulated Militia” OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m a strict constitutionalist, I think everyone has a right to a single shot musket or sidearm. Everything else is regulated for the protection of our country.
As more and more Americans lay down their lives at the alter of the 2nd Amendment, it’s infuriating there is no National Memorial honoring their sacrifice for our freedoms. Just thoughts and prayers. Something akin to the Vietnam Memorial with their names engraved would suffice. Of course it would need a lot of room for expansion as we add more and more names to it.
Not the way it has been interpreted today so that any yahoo can have any gun he or she chooses. It was put in place because the Nation needed a “well-regulated militia” of armed citizens. We have an official army, navy, air force, marine corp, coast guard, and space force now. They are armed with the latest in arms and technology. Armed citizens aren’t needed to form a militia.
The whole Constitution needs to be updated and edited. Of course, it won’t be. Only the viewpoints of a white, well-off, educated (for the time period), quite a few slave-owning and patriarchal group of men. No women, no non-whites, no poor folks had any input. Time to change that.
Not exactly. The 2nd Amendment created by the Spirit of Uncle Sam was radically rewritten by Justice Scalia. The original was about a “well regulated militia” for the safey of “a free state”. (“State” in the constitution always means a constituent of the Union.) There’s nothing about self-defense, because it was taken for granted. (There’s also nothing in there prohibiting women or Negrɶs from being elected to state and federal offices or serving as judges or justices. Because it never occurred to the drafters that anything so illogical or unnatural would ever come up.)
Also, for what it’s worth, “bear arms” is a term of soldiery. At the time the 2nd Amendment was written, “bear” no longer meant “carry around” in any generic sense, which Scalia could have found out by looking at “bear” in the Oxford English Dictionary. It had then, as it has now, many figurative uses.
Scalia’s reputation as a “scholar” was not entirely deserved.
Now figure out how to deal with the Monster. Cause guns aren’t going away, this isn’t Australia, America can’t print enough funny money to buy back a 100,000,000 guns at $2,000 a pop.
If Repubs and the NRA would stop misinterpreting the 2nd Amendment, we the USA could have both guns and responsible gun legislation for owning those weapons.

It’s the misinterpretation of the amendment that created the monster. They’re ignoring part of the amendment. Dritt.

Instead of trying to regulate guns, guns, guns, why not eliminate all AMMO

Uncle Sam didn’t create today’s version of the second amendment. That was done by the gun industry and its NRA lobbying group.
