Although Gasoline Alley is set in a generic town that could be just about anywhere, I have always thought of it as a town in Maine, perhaps Bangor, with Rufus and Joel from the rural northern part of the state. Just for fun, I used Google maps to see the route between Charlotte Maine (a very small town, population 315) and Bangor. It’s about a two hour drive, mostly on Maine Route 9. A long drive to just deliver tires, but it does fit today’s strip.
Mind you, I am not insisting that Gasoline Alley is Bangor Maine. Any moderately sizable town that is somewhat near a rural area (that Rufus and Joel would have come from) would fit this strip, whether in Maine, Idaho, Kentucky, or almost any other state.

If P.2. don’t set a location I don’t know what would. When’s Joel gonna light that thing ?

Perhaps it’s set in Deluth, Tierra del Fuego or the far flung islets of Langerhans.
