Played ball on a dead end street. When the ball went into the sewer, we’d scoop it up with a soup ladle that was tied to thick string to lower/raise it.
This was a constant risk at the sandlot I played baseball in. Luckily the storm drains were not wide and covered by a large iron grate with an opening in the curb that could easily be covered with a skateboard.
