Santa is old enough, too, to understand that older people have Limited stamina. Don’t forget- he only has a 1-night-a-year gig- and it takes him the Rest of the year to recover.
I went into a store the other day and walked past a male bell ringer for a certain organization, I had already donated to, when the ringer demanded I put money in the kettle. I refused and kept walking because I hadn’t done my shopping yet. On the way out I was again accosted by the same ringer who began a foul mouthed tirade about my “stinginess” and how I owed a donation to help those less fortunate than myself. I didn’t engage and kept walking being followed by the ringer until I got to my vehicle and got inside. The bell ringer then smacked the side window. Rather than escalate the matter by retrieving my firearm, I drove away and filed a police report. The ringer denied everything I said, saying I had initiated the incident; right up until the officer reviewed the security video which fortunately had audio. He was given an arrest citation for disorderly conduct.
I called the local office of the organization and told them of the incident and suggested the ringers be retrained. Apparently that ringer was fired. I hated to complain and file the report, but this person was so aggressive and possibly high that I feared for the safety of someone who was infirm or young that might encounter the guy.
Don’t get me wrong, the organization does good work and I understand it needs donations.
Despite being Jewish my parents (actually my dad) would take me to see “the real” Santa in Macys 34th Street store in Manhattan. I have sort of memories of going to see Santa.
I do not remember at all something that a couple of years ago my mom told me about – she figured I remembered – Macys had a big electric train layout for the holidays (which I do remember) and apparently some friend of my dad’s was the person who set it up and ran it and he would let me run the trains. Running the trains is what I don’t remember – but that may be why a girl would decide that she wanted a set of electric trains when around 7 years old “just like my cousin Bill’s set”. And yes I got the trains – but dad ran them more than I did. (Some of the cars and the engine are downstairs in the layout husband and I built for ourselves.)

I think he will understand Lola quite well.
