Get ready to breach and blow!

I remember humpbacks (the whale pictured here is not a humpback) in Cape Cod Bay deliberately coming to the whale watch boat (they apparently knew its sound) and doing “tricks” (breaching, waving a fin, etc.). If those on the boat made a lot of noise (e.g., stomping on the deck), the whales would extend the length of their “show”.

Why would a whale need a watch? What’s time to a whale?

The whale doesn’t seem to have much motivation.

They heard great things on his podcast.

I’m beginning to think that the WORST thing that can happen to a species is to have humans want to save them. . .

’Did this off San Francisco, and I finally suggested, “Throw out this Giant Squid.”
