God is only retired in the minds of those who choose to ignore Him and try to legislate him out of our lives. The truth is that God is as alive and active in the lives of people today as he ever was. Just because many of you choose to ignore God does not mean He does not exist.
Hugh B. Hayve - re: 401(K)
I’m guessing you’re not an American. A 401(K) is a company-sponsored retirement plan, named after a section of the Internal Revenue (a.k.a. tax collection) code. Here’s the Wikipedia link: http://tinyurl.com/k6p79
I don’t have all the accounting/business degrees from all those top universities, but I knew clearly what the game plan was back when the politicians wanted everyone to be able to “invest” (bailout) their Social Security money in the Stock Market.
He (or he) – or even She (or she) – can throw lighting bolts until eternity. I myself am armed with a string of four-letter lighting bolts to hurl at the 401k bogey men.
I’m not much into retirement when I learned the secret about how it is really spelled; “S U I C I D E”. So I think I’ll work until my clients throw me off the porch. I’m 69 and look for another 30 years of productivity.
March 13, 1964; Kitty Genovese murdered on the street while 38 ‘witnesses’ do nothing during more than 1/2 hour assault by stabbing. New York times carries extensive articles for several weeks. Elton John referenced the ‘Headline’ ‘God is dead’ in a song solidifying the phrase in popular culture. First attributed to Nietzsche.
My above post is still wrong. I asked a very knowledgeable professor about the events of the time today. I had always thought the reference was to the horrendous N.Y. murder in ‘64. The 1966 ‘Time’ reference came from a group of theologians at the time who were causing a stir by suggesting that God was dead. Two unrelated events blurred together by time. That is the short version I learned today. I could have sworn it was the N.Y. Times. I was but a child at the time.
Not to come across as a pedantic always-must-be-right, but the Genovese murder was mischaracterized: rather, the “bystanders did nothing” bit was. I read an in-depth review, but a good start is Wikipedia, “Kitty Genovese”, if you’re interested.
Basically, if you wake up to a noise outside your sixth-floor window and see a couple outside the neighborhood bar, you assume they’re drunk and go back to bed. Not “I didn’t want to get involved.”

The New York Times (Post?) retired him in 1964.

Here’s another comic mentioning that 401K thing again…it would probably be funnier if I knew what one of those is.

Doctortoon: Perhaps this God/Zeus/Jupiter/Thor is just a wonderful blending of various faiths & beliefs. All he’s missing now is his yarmulke. ;)

As usual, LeonardWatson hit it spot on. Oh yeah, don’t say spot on, someone didn’t like that term. Make that he was right.
