I could tolerate the football guys but there was one in college basketball that I always muted. “Dicky V” with his repetitive clichés, ridiculous criticisms of refs, and incessant fawning over the demented “General” and that now retired guy from Duke, without any substance about the strategy and plays, was too much for me to listen.
I never wished him physical problems to get him off the air, but I definitely have enjoyed watching my alma mater and assorted key games without having to find him assigned to those games.

I read a long time ago there was a television football broadcast without announcers. Why that didn’t become the norm we’ll never know.
