I knew I could rely on Wikipedia to have an article on this ditty. (Do the young-uns of modern times even know this anymore?)
If my memory’s correct, two bits was 25 cents.
Looks like that would be one bit for each hair.
Man, so close. The first measure is correct, but the second should be: quarter rest, F#, G (and another quarter rest if we’re being picky. Pickier.)
His hair is only worth one, maybe one and a half bits!!

When was the last time he needed a haircut, during the Great Depression?
Even after inflation, he can’t afford to give him a haircut for two bits. 2 bits in 1776 is worth $8.84 today.
Perhaps they should change the words to “Shave and a haircut…. 12 bucks” (or is it more now even at an old time barber shop?).
His attempt at subliminal messaging was as subtle as aftershave on a newly shave face. (⊙ _ ⊙ )
It’s 2 bits per hair.
I used to hear the “two” in that song as “to.” Like the barber was just pulverizing the hair.
Those last two notes on the staff shouldn’t be there since no one is singing them.
My barber just jumped from $17 to $25.
