A National Geographic video that I used to show in my biology classes when talking about predators and prey shows a dove, while drinking and wading in the water, being snatched from below the surface, and then being eaten by several turtles.
“Turtle” originally meant the bird. It was only s few centuries ago that some people (probably English sailors) confused the English word “turtle” with the French word “tortue”. So now we have to say “turtle-dove” where Shakespeare just said “turtle”.
