There is a gag in the movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood where a man is feeding his dog some canned dog food, and we see that he has cans of “new raccoon flavor”.
As far as deer taken for meat, all mine are harvested as varmints out of the family apple and pear orchards. If they stayed in the fallow fields sown in clover, they’d live longer. but the stupid ones insist on feasting on the low hanging fruit and need to be culled. They do taste pleasant and are an exceedingly lean protein.

I’ve had venison a few times. It’s gross. The only way to prepare it is to make it not taste like venison.
