I love the mystery series by Julia Spencer-Fleming set in upstate New York. The Sheriff’s mother has an old newspaper photo on the fridge of her and former NY Gov Nelson Rockefeller, nose to nose, screaming at each other. In one book, Sheriff Russ tells his youngest deputy to arrest his mom for leading an illegal demonstration, and the kid is terrified.
