And the piano has been drinking…

The keys used to be real ivory.

As long as it wasn’t from an incontinent cat that used to walk across the keys.

It yellowed with age. Smoking had nothing to do with it.

Victor Borge used to say “My keys are yellow because my elephant smoked too much.”

The previous owner was a smoker, possibly!

It makes me wonder, if people are being prohibited from poaching elephants for their ivory, then where exactly have they been getting imitation ivory from?

I’ve noticed old ivory keys on pianos will turn yellow. It seems moisture has that effect on ivory and bone, not smoking.

reminds me growing up when i was really little, we had a piano…it was a player piano, you could put the music in and hit the pumps, but it is odd because neither my parents nor i played the piano

In fact, it’s so old that the elephant who “donated” tusks for the keys was also a smoker.

Think that’s the piano from Billy Joel’s song ‘Piano Man’? You just know the patrons of that club smoked a lot back then.
