“Bird brain” isn’t what it used to be. It turns out that birds’ brains perform amazingly well without even a cerebral cortex. They can handle complex flight dynamics, long-distance navigation and process data from four different color sensors in their eyes. They can mimic other birds’ calls, some even human voices. They can perform simple calculations and find hidden items.
I have friends who can do none of these things. :)
