This comic made me think of a roommate I use to have. He’d suggest something that sounded reasonable and then twist it to his advantage. One I remember was when he suggested a late fee on the monthly bills. A $10 late fee sounded reasonable to me, until the first time I was late and found out how he intended to apply the fee. I thought he was going to consider the monthly funds as a lump sum payment and charge me $10 every time II was late. Instead he broke the lump sum into a separate bill for every thing. $1 for a roll of paper towels, separate bill. 50 cents for some mustard, separate bill, you get the idea. Then he started applying the money I gave him to the bills, starting with the largest and going to the smallest. That first month I was about $10 short on the lump sum I owed him and ended up with about 10 late fees (even if I was a penny short on a bill he charged me the whole late fee because I was still short). When I complained he told me it wasn’t his fault if I didn’t understand how he intended to apply the late fee. He did offer to waive the fee because of the “misunderstanding” and I took him up on the offer, but I was still out of there as soon as I was able.
