The worst part about Three Mile Island is that the reactor’s protective systems functioned exactly as they were supposed to. The operators didn’t believe the indications and overrode the safety systems and human error directly caused the accident.
The other really funny part about Three Mile Island was that the total radiation released was less than that from the radon from a coal-fired plant for one day.
Shirttail Slim: it’s worth keeping in mind that the strip is thirty years old, or thereabouts. It might be the first time that you’ve seen that phrase in a “freely accessible strip”, but there’s a lot of history since then…
