I’ll confess, I own an AR-15. I purchased it because it’s a rifle I was very familiar with (at the time of purchase I was Active Duty). Ammo was dirt cheap, and I liked going out to the firing range (rarely have it out of the pelican case nowadays). I also built an LR-308 (DPMS version of the AR-10), again I built it because I was familiar with the rifle. It’s used for hunting, as it’s very accurate (one shot one kill). I keep them in a case, and remove the firing pins, until I use/clean them. I also have an over-under 12GA, 45/70, .22, and a 1911. I’m not disagreeing with the comic, but there ARE responsible gun owners out there.

Here in Indiana, it is illegal to hunt (deer, turkey, etc.) with a rifle. You must use a shotgun.

The only exception is black-powder muzzleloaders, such as my .50 caliber caplock Hawken.

I prefer my .62 caliber flintlock smoothbore Tulle fusil de chasse, however.

So, kindly explain why there are so *&%$$#^^ many AR-15s for sale here?

Fully automatic weapons are illegal, and have been illegal since 1933. The AR15 is semi-automatic, and any modifications to make it fire as an automatic is illegal.

Semi-automatic weapons include pistols, rifles and shot guns. The AR15 is being targeted as an ‘assault rifle’ by dishonest politicians on both sides. The AR15 is NOT an assault rifle. It is not an automatic weapon and an assault rifle MUST be fully automatic to be an assault rifle. The AR15 functions the same as any other semi-automatic weapon, such as the M1 Garand, carbines, and a host of 30.06 hunting rifles. In fact, some use the AR15 for hunting. It just looks different. It looks like the M16A1 or the M4 fully automatic assault rifle. It’s looks are based in contemporary/modern design versus the older wood stock weapons.

Most states have a legal limit of 3 rounds in a hunting weapon. So, there is no need at all for anything more than the standard magazine in an AR15. 30 round capacity and more are not needed, nor intended, for civilian use. The ammunition itself also needs to be regulated. Hollow point and armor piercing rounds are not intended for civilian use either. These regulations should apply to ALL weapons, not just the AR15.

To ban a weapon due to it’s looks, rather than it’s function, is not accomplishing anything but instead placating those who don’t know. It is a waste of time and effort.

Any “military style” weapon should be banned from civilian ownership.

Last Summer, I attended a WWII weekend in Reading PA. Lots of military aircraft, armored vehicles, FDR, Eisenhower, Churchill and Oddball impersonators! Lots of fun! There were also about 70-80 vendors there. This year I saw MANY young children, as young as 5(?) and a few young girls walking around WITH THEIR PARENTS carrying toy AR15’s and AK47’s! Yes, I had Sgt Saunders (TV show “COMBAT”) 30cal Thompson machine gun when I was a kid, and played KILLING NAZI SOLDIERS with my friends. But the two above-mentioned guns have gained their popularity gunning down innocent civilians and children. What are their parents thinking???

The reality is: Qupublicans don’t care if the poor people die, as long as their donors are happy.
