    A while back, I picked up a collection of reprints of 1950s EC comics. One issue of ‘Frontline Combat’ was devoted to the Civil War. A comic book meant for 10 year olds laid out the run up to the war; had a bio of Lincoln; discussed tactics; and named soem of the major generals and the most important battles.

    The pilgrims were run out of England for being hyper religious nut cases. Martin Luthor became a popular political advisor to royalty who said that there Is no good reason to pay taxes to the Vatican.

    In my 30+ year teaching career, I’ve read my fair share of these types of responses. My all-time favorite (or of those I remember) was when a student explained in their paper that Hitler developed his oratory skills at the University of Idaho…
