Oh, Fred, don’t bother. You are very unique and the only Fred Basset we know of in the whole world! Good thing you noticed that this woman wasn’t talking to you. Would have been quite a commotion if you have followed her home. This other Fred does not look very happy.
This is more of a comment on yesterday’s strips than today’s strip but there was a news article on Scottish Terriers on Breakfast TV here in the UK this morning. The Kennel Club has announced that there has been a serious drop in Scottish Terriers in recent years despite their iconic status which includes the dog in the Monopoly game being a Scottish Terrier. Hopefully, Scottish Terriers will make a comeback.
Did you ever search the internet thinking you had a unique name only to find a handful of others with the same name right in your own area? It’s a bit unsettling…for a moment anyway.
Over in Peanuts, Snoopy once did some calculating on the number of beagles there must be in the world, and realized in horror, “Good grief! I’m not unique!”
And in what we jokingly call Real Life™, in one of the college classes I took, two other people shared my given name – and the professor tended to call his students by given name, providing an “amusing” bit of confusion any time he chose to call on one of us three. It wasn’t a particularly large class, either: a couple of dozen people or thereabouts.
