Before I retired, I always took a vacation day on Leap Day. Just to do something fun for myself. And yes, we’re going out to eat at somewhere new today. Make your own celebration!
It should be noted that a leap day has nothing to do with daylight saving time, where we spring ahead. That’s coming up on March 10, and we get to do that one EVERY year (but it only affects a single hour, not an entire day).
Will Durant observed that the British declined to change to the Gregorian calendar for a decade or two after the rest of Europe did so, because, he said, “They preferred to disagree with nature rather than to agree with the Pope.”

In some past cultures Leap Day is also when women got to propose to men.
