Well said. In the last five years acre after acdre of woodland have been clear cut, left bare mud to run off, clog the steams and wildlife moving in to town. Why the clearcutting and burning the cut trees? To built apartment complexes and storage units. Are trees replanted and other landscaping? NO! I don’t mind the wildlife coming into the yard but then the yard is four acres, withing the city limits, bordered by tree rows on 3.5 sides. I do enjoy the two families of deer each and replace deer eaten plants with just if not more attractive plants that deer don’t like. They don’t like the fragrances that we do. Roes are an exception, but then they keep the prunes pruned and I don’t have to.

When we moved here to SW Florida 10 years ago, it was a paradise. (So different from East coast Florida). There were SO many acres of native trees and palms. It was not overbuilt. Airport here is small. Fell in love from the minute we stepped into that Fort Myers Airport. Fast Forward to today – almost every beautiful acre has been destroyed for not just single-family housing, but acres and acres of condos (some way over a million dollars). Infrastructure cannot handle the traffic; in “season”, it’s worse. Every couple of miles is a storage unit. This place has now turned into Miami West. (ok, not quite, but it’s getting there) --we are now looking to get out, if we can only figure out where to go.

Where are the animals supposed to go when their natural habitats are destroyed so people can take more spaces up with their junk. Then they complain when a deer eats their flowers or a bear gets into their backyard. We need to rebuild our ruined cities and stop taking and taking the forests and meadows.

I live in a development where every street is named after a Native American tribe. How apropos. “We’re gonna run you off your land, but we’ll name stuff after you. You should be honored.”

    Unfortunately, that’s true, Ginger.
