Well, he might discover there was a problem. The chip that turned on the “Check Engine Light” might defective. I have a defective tire pressure warning light. Always on. Four attempts and the garage can’t fix it cheaply (he could replace the system but warns it would cost as much as a couple sets of tires). Have a pressure gauge and check periodically – just like the good ol’ days.
Oddly enough, turning off the check engine light circuit has been recommended by a few mechanics I know. Sometimes the check engine circuitry is what’s faulty.

A little piece of black tape will cover it up so it doesn’t bother you anymore.
