My ex-girlfriend went into a store for her first pack. When confronted with all the choices (brand, length, tar level, menthol or plain, filter or unfiltered, etc.) she turned and walked out. Never did come to a decision, which was one of the best decisions she ever made.
Look for the brand that says “excitement follows,” Opus, and enjoy the excitement of waiting for the doctor’s diagnosis of throat cancer and the even greater excitement of waiting for the ambulance for that last ride to the hospital. Now, that’s exciting!
Actually, this is pretty much how I quit smoking years ago. I got so mad at the companies, and the advertisements, it made it quit. I used the ads to make myself mad every time I saw one, until I convinced myself I absolutely hated them. They had ads like people playing volley ball, smoking, and saying like “tastes good like a cigarette should”…If you smoke, playing volley ball, is low on the list of things you can do, and they taste horrible!! If you ever really tasted one, you would NEVER think “mmm tastes like steak!!” Tastes like an ashtray! So this sort of thinking, was really, really helpful to get me to quit. But unlike cybergal29, sadly for me, it was the most unhealthy thing I’ve ever done. I had a disease that was kept in check by smoking, believe it or not. As soon as I quit, it blew up, and cost me some body parts, major ones. And I’ve been fighting the consequences of that ever since. One treatment for it, unknown to me at the time, was nicotine patches. So, lung cancer versus skin cancer? Versus missing body parts?

SO thankful that I never even tried smoking! My husband quit about 7 years ago, so our girls won’t get the idea from us.

If you can get them past age twelve without smoking, they’ll probably never start. And, ah, Bruno, they won’t ruin Opus’s teeth. Penguin, remember?
