Little known fact: When H.J. Heinz decided to add pickles to his line of products he did a lot of experimentation before he hit upon the idea of using small cucumbers for his recipe. The wooden one did indeed leave customers with splinters. The ones made of locally produced Pittsburgh Steel were even worse. (Thus the moniker, Heinz 57)
