“I was worried about that too, but I would have been nearly as worried if Hilary had won.”
Same here. I watched the ceremony with a tremendous amount of apprehension and breathed a sigh of relief when he made it through. Too many crazies. Threats against the president have skyrocketed with his term…. (up 400%)
With the elation of showing the world that we CAN elect a not-100%-Son-of-the-Celtic/Germanic-Pioneers President, we confront the potential discouragement of remembering our country has some very deep racist roots.
Maybe it’s living in NYC that does it, but I’m more and more convinced that - while you can never guarantee safety from threats no matter what you do - we all spend a whole lot too much time, effort and money on our worries. We’d do better devoting all that to addressing the roots of the problems we do have. The need is real, the country’s got great potential, and those resources could have accomplished a lot for us in the past 8.5 years.

Well, we managed (over a certain amount of apprehension) to get past that, and I suspect the SS detail is finding its pace by now.
Now it’s time to get some real work done, and make our President do the things that need done (just like FDR asked).

Kind of interesting reading this knowing that it was written several years before Obama had even thrown his hat in the ring for the Presidency.
