Businesses are facing labor shortages. Labor shortages lead to increased labor costs and reduced profits. Birth rates in the US have dropped from ~24 per 1,000 people in 1950 to ~12per 1,000 in 2023. Even if the domestic birth rate increased it would take too long to address the labor shortage. And yet one possible solution to the labor shortage, i.e. increased immigration, is eschewed. Go figure!
