just refreshed, and i’m the only one on here, so i guess breakfast is on me (not literally, but you know what i mean). mushroom and cheddar omelettes, with bacon and sausage links on the side. toasted english muffins (here’s to the noble.. sorry wrong toast) with a selection of jams, jellies, and Sherrif’s Good Morning Marmalade. apple, orange and cran-razz juices. english breakfast and earl grey teas. (i seem to be in a british kind of mood tonight. must be because of prince charles’ visit to our fair land).

almost forgot to mention the nuclear coffee - straight from the pipeline! enjoy, everyone.

hi Lonewolf & Steve just in for a brief visit. i got an english penny in my change, but wasn’t sure it was english until i looked it up on google. it was a bit tarnished, but i cleaned it up with a bit of diet pepsi (all it’s good for in my opinion) that i had and now it looks nice enough to use as a ball marker in my golf bag. anyhow, hope all are well. i’m not going to wade through the many many comments on yesterday’s to try to catch up. i’ll just start anew.

well its been quite since i left.

you all know how i did not want to go get the x-rays a while back when i got in the bike wreck? well guess what i just got the bill in…. $340.00 wow this sucks… see why i dont go to the doctor when im sick or hurting. i dont care what happens im not going back this is crazy. pluse i had a bill yesterday for $50 form them so thats… $390.00 this is gonna kill me. wow. It’s military patch of the 1st Cavalry Division. I was in that Division for much of my time in the Army at Fort Hood. I wanted to put it up yesterday, but did not want ot signify only one unit for Veteran’s Day, so I waited until today. It is for both my unit I was in and to the fallen from the tragic shooting at Fort Hood last week.

Terry i thought it had something to do with your time im the army.

I talked to walking buddy a few mins ago she called me and i got the chance to tell her thanks for her service. she was touched.

Hello all, lots and lots of chopping has been going on since my last post, but now I am free for a short time.

It is funny that my last two posts have come right at the changeover. I have to say that I am ready for a Booker’s and a cigar. I have spent a lot of time in the kitchen and the dinner isn’t even for tonight. It will taste better for a dinner tomorrow, so tonight is leftover chicken cacciatore. Have I mentioned that…

cleo, I added two Rocky Patels to the humidor yesterday. I am saving them for a special occassion. Do they go well with Bookers?

I too like to chop veggies. My wife uses this hand chopper that you plunge down of a cutting board and the blade is shaped like sharp corrugated metal, but I like the physical act of cutting. I rarely use a food processor.

Carmy - Your machete works wonderfully in the kitchen.

MoPar - They go very well with Booker’s. But Rocky Patels go well with just about anything. It, as you know, is one of my favorite smokes, particularly the 1990.

MoPar- Buying them in pairs is nice, so that you can share them with whomever you wish and you are both smoking the same cigar. I usually buy in quantities of 20 or 25 then save a couple for the very few friends who like cigars. All my cigar smoking cronies, 4 to be exact, live in BC, Houston, Fullerton and Prescott, AZ. As you can imagine, I mostly smoke alone.

cleo, I was expecting you to say that Booker’s goes well with everything. We were definitely thinking along the same lines.

I LOVE food too. When I was living on the beach in Florida, I had friends who would call me and ask, “If we buy some food and bring it over there will you cook it?” It was great. I gained over 30 pounds during that time. It took me about a year to work it off.

For the uninitiated, here’s a little blurb on Booker’s:

Cleo, my best friend Wayne (the guy I told you to look up in Virginia) is a serious Cigar aficionado. I don’t see him often and we rarely have the opportunity to share a smoke, but it is truly special when we do. I only have one local friend who is a cigar smoker, so like you, I mostly fly solo.

It was more like, a little taste here, a BIG taste there!

MoPar - When I met my wife it was a brief standoff in the kitchen as to whom was going to be the principal cook. I backed off and all has been well, because I love her abilities in the kitchen. I am gradually starting to do more, because she just recently went back to work., but not full time.

Christmas is a time when I occasionally go up to my cousin’s house in Silver Creek, BC. My cousin’s sister and her husband will come up from Houston. These are two of my smoking buddies. We will gather in the shop, sip scotch and smoke cigars in front of his little wood burning stove. It is amazing how cigars and whiskey or brandy promote conversation. I love it.

Dry - You are the type of woman that I could see enjoying a cigar. My wife loves the smell.

Can you believe it. We have been talking about Booker’s and JFri hasn’t caught a hint of the aroma. He must be slipping.

Doc - you know what happened to your brain. Come on, you’re not fooling anyone. You lost it when your head exploded.

Doc - Hello my friend. Since you lost your head yesterday at Birdbrains you no longer have a brain. I suppose we are going to have to have this discussion on a daily basis from now on.

MoPar - We definitely are on the same wavelength tonight. LOL

cleo, I married an innocent lady. My wife has NEVER tasted beer or coffee, and never smoked anything. She does like the smell of good cigars and pipes, though, and is very sweet about my habits. She can cook, but chooses not to, so I am the cook of the house and that is fine with me.

cleo, that is too funny. I was wondering as I typed that if anyone else had the same thought. I shoulda known.

You are right cleo about great conversation happening over good drinks and good smokes. My son lives in Annandale VA and he has become an amazing beer brewer. His home brew is some of the very best beer I have had anywhere, and I have been to Germany. (you shoulda stopped to see him while you were there). We love to get together on his patio with a tall mug of his brew and a smooth cigar and catch up on everything.

MoPar, It is amazing how things change when you have people that are special in your life. After my divorce, I decided that I was never going to do the old one night stand thing ever again and never get involved with someone that I didn’ t believe would be my lifetime soulmate.

The woman that is now my wife came off a 25 year marriage that produced 2 very smart kids that grew up without TV. Her husband was a fisherman, but left her two or three years after her accident, when she could no longer ski or do most of the outdoor activities that they were doing together.

Shoot… I have to end my story here dinner is ready. Sorry.

Maybe I’ll take a swig of that Tequila too. I went out earlier to get some gas and I almost hit a dude on a bicycle. I was trying to turn right on a red and I saw a break and hit the gas. He came out of nowhere with his dark clothes, dark bike with no lights or reflectors. I hit the brake and he had the audacity to give me a “look.” The no crossing sign was lit up, the doofus!

JFri - I was reading the comments as i came back and hit on the same theme (medium) and was going to make a very similar comment. I guess this is an evening of great minds.

Dry - That actually was a compliment about the cigar thing. It is more than about the cigars. I principally meant that you would fit in nicely in and around the fire chat with whiskey and cigars.

Carmy - My wife and I are bikers and really get annoyed by cyclists that do not signal, ride in pairs in the middle of the road with traffic behind you and darting across lanes without signaling, riding without helmets, you name it. I hate it. Bicylcists should be respected and treated as another vehicle of transportation, but instead so many irritate cars that I now worry about car drivers who cut to close to us or flip us off when they drive by because they are po’d with bicylcle riders in general. Cars and bikes need to share the road and treat one another with respect.

Cleo, we have a lot of bike riders around here. My husband rides his bike to the base. I do see some riders that obey the rules, but sadly, there are more that follow no rules.

Carmy Sadly, someone was killed. But now I think there must have been two shootings, or else there are weird acoustics. According to reports, the young man was shot BEHIND my building, but the shots sounded like they were IN FRONT.

I can’t remember now if it was Monday or Wednesday night. The reports say Wednesday night, but I’m sure it was Monday night, because I told people about it on Tuesday.

shika, I wanted the drink before that. The Facebook actually didn’t shock me, I was surprised I came across it so easy, since I wasn’t EVEN looking for it! No big shockers, nothing I didn’t already know.

You are right Carmy The paper must have had the date wrong. But the guy was found a few blocks, and he was just outside the place he was shot they say. The shots I heard were in front because that’s where the sirens wound up. Maybe retaliation, who knows?

I kinned the tips of both thumbs grinding stones today. One of the hazards of lapidary. They didn’t hurt while I was working because the cold water kept dripping on them.

Carmy That is so dangerous of him - and then to think he pretended it was your fault. I agree with theothers - cyclists have to obey the rules of the road. I’m pleased to see so many helmets here. ANd in Calgary most have bells. I wish they were as common here on the island.

Dawn, my husband has a bell on his bike. I thought it was silly at first, but it’s actually a good idea to have one.

Dawn, I was working on our lapidary challenge. We each got four different rocks, and we have to make cab out of each one. The rocks are challenging, and my cabs are coming out smaller than I’d like, and my thumbs got too close to the wheel. I’m not fond of the dop sticks, but I’m going to have to use them in this case.

Carmy, yes some friends back in IL made deep fried turkeys, and said that they were delicious! The deep frying can be dangerous, so it’s best to do it outside. If someone elase will do it, that’s even better.

Shika, we’ve done turquoise, black onyx, fish egg jaspar, and agate. The stones I’m working on now are Montana agate (the easiest), carnelian (much softer than I expected), chrysophase with malachite (leaves a dirty black residue), and a mystery stone that looks like agate, but has some soft material running through it, and it falls apart. I’ve got all the sawing and the rough shaping done, now I need to do the fine grinding and polishing. I really love the class. Did you own a jewelry store?

Hi Shika, I don’t get online too often and I like to read the comments before I make any so I end up getting on very late and missing you ;>( Sounds like your courses are really fun. We had a theology prof at our U who attracted students from all over. Unfortunately he was killed in a car crash. They’ve named a building after him but the department hasn’t been the same since.

I’m 5’6”. I used to be 5’7”, but I shrank.

Marg, Dop sticks saved my husbands fingers although he too didn’t like to use them. He made a ring for me with white and yellow gold and three diamonds - one for each of my boys. Most recently he made me ammonite earrings. But with building the house, he hasn’t had time to even get his jewelry desk set up. Sigh…..

Carmy I have never deep fried a turkey, but know people who have. One of my coworkers deep fried a turkey for our office Christmas Party last year, outside of course, and it was the BEST turkey I ever had. And moist, oh my! Delicious!

Yes, Marg, he does. He has sold quite a bit in art shows but he has always been a teacher first. Loved his job! My son has followed in his footsteps but unfortunately also has to have a day job ;>(
