Does a “city inspector” ring any bells?

Well, Kat—the Liberty Bell might not ring any more, but the bell that hangs in the tower of Independence Hall not only rings (and beautifully!), but has been doing so since 1876.

The Liberty Bell was originally cast in England, but damaged in transit to the colony of Pennsylvania. Local metal workers recast it twice, but within 30 years it was showing damage and within 60 was out of commission.

They don’t make bells the way they used to. Thankfully.

(Actually, the process is still much the same. I’m simply saying modern large bells usually hold up better than earlier bells where the casting process had more things to go wrong.)

I thought Big Bell had to break up…then again, didn’t SBC gobble up Pacific Bell, and in turn AT&T took over SBC?

It was rung once and broke. Recast and held together for a while but eventually broke again. It was patched to try to save it but the crack got worse. It became a symbol and retired honorably instead of being melted down for buttons.

I think the schoolbus is also a problem.

Those potholes are pretty serious if they’re giving the kids concussions!
