Keep the bat! They eat from 500 to 1000 per night. Brown bats can eat up to 1000 per hour which adds up to a staggering 6,000 to 8,000 mosquitoes each night! But do be careful as bats are the leading cause of rabies deaths in people in the United States!

Some years back my husband I made a trip to Austin, TX to see the colony of Mexican Free-Tailed bats living under the Congress Ave. Bridge. It was a wonderful experience to see them all come out in a huge cloud in the evening to go hunt bugs. From what I understand, the local residents are very fond and protective of that colony and I totally understand. We sat out on the riverbank for two hours and didn’t even see a single mosquito—doing that in FL would get you eaten alive! We even saw a rescue mission when a couple of guys from the nearby Omni hotel came out with a bat in a pool sweep—apparently it got into the hotel by accident, so they netted it and brought it back out and released it to return to the colony. Bats are awesome!!!

Understandable, since Iggy is scared of his shadow.

I’ve spent a few nice evenings watching bats flying around – found location few people went and where you can stand in the trees and you could see them filtering around in the open, unfortunately not found anywhere similar close since I’ve moved

More deadly and common than malaria for dogs…heart worms! Go bats, eat away!
