I tell solar panel salespeople that I work for the electric company and get my power for free. Some of them believe me.

I had a company with a similar sounding name ring the bell and try to sell me such a system. Said the installation was free and they’d take care of all the permits, etc. The thing fell apart when I asked how much my monthly payment to them would be after the introductory low price and what happened if I decided I didn’t want it anymore and could the payment be put into writing. I wasn’t a jerk to him, but he sure didn’t like my wife and myself asking pointed questions.

First question I ask these people,“Which way is south?” If they can’t at least tell me that, I doubt their knowledge.

We looked into solar last summer, the gent who came out to inspect & estimate told us with all of our neighbors trees we’d be lucky to get 20% from any placement pattern. Was refreshing to hear an honest opinion from him. So yeah, still hooked to the grid. Oh well, at least we get nice shade during the hot summers!
