My 10th birthday piñata was shaped like a green octopus. None of us children could break it; it turned out the family friend who made it had used chicken wire under the papier-mâché. Father had to use a small hatchet to open it.

We took a smilling purple dinosaur – put fangs on it – and us parental units had great joy bashing it. Was great fun.

Company picnic had one for the kids. The art department had a fit because we were teaching kids to be “violent”.
