We would occasionally get pizza slices of a sort in the school cafeteria, and, compared to a lot of other school cafeteria food, we considered it a treat. Before that, I’d only had pizza (of a sort) that my mother made from a boxed kit from the grocery store, but at the time that seemed like a treat, too. Pizza as available to me today is incomparably, almost infinitely better, but I wouldn’t mind tasting the fondly remembered ersatz pizzas of my childhood just one more time.
